It is inexcusable for scientists to torture animals; let them make their experiments on journalists and politicians.(1) Animal testing cannot be tolerated. If experiments must be conducted, why not use those “animals” (journalists and politicians) who say it is fine to torment animals as specimens.
A popular movie for teens, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”, influenced teens into thinking owls were cool by putting numerous owl-related commercials about the movie everywhere. As a result, many teens began to keep owls as pets. Countless owls were caught by merchants because of the increased request, therefore reducing the owl population drastically. It was not long before “Harry Potter” commercials were taken off air and print. Teens then started to think that owls were uncool again, and most of them were either thrown out or starved to death by their owners.
Animals often appear on TV shows and commercials nowadays. When teens see these “actors”, they might just think, “Oh, that cat is so cute and cuddly!” or “It must be wonderful to be that dog acting on commercials, and being famous!” However, do they know what REALLY is happening behind the scenes? These “actors” are forced into show business. If they do not co-operate, they will be punished (e.g: no food, torture). The media does not show this to their viewers, they do not know the truth. This has caused them to have wrong knowledge about animals on TV.
In conclusion, most decisions and thoughts by teens are influenced by the media very much. The media plays an extremely important role in youth’s minds. One wrong or unclear message can result in utter chaos. The media must be extra careful when dealing with teen-related issues, the consequences could be devastating.
